I am seeking to walk small steps towards a culture of integrity and belonging.


Maya Ward is an interdisciplinary artist, designer and educator currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing. Maya’s background is in placemaking and urban design, she has a Masters in Social Ecology and has worked in community settings as a festival director, writer, and performer. Her memoir The Comfort of Water: A River Pilgrimage, published by Transit Lounge, is an account of her 22-day journey from the sea to the source of the Yarra River, and was shortlisted by the State Library for the 2012 Year of Reading. She co-creates walking and pilgrimage-based ritual, facilitates dance, makes gardens and grows food with her home community in the mountain village of Warburton.
